Chelsea faced reigning Ligue 1 champions Lille in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 tie. Tuchel’s men ended up the victors on the night, thanks to goals from Havertz, who started as the no. 9 in place of Romelu Lukaku, and Pulisic.
Lille had opportunities of their own but were unable to create enough high-quality chances to trouble the London side’s defence. On an evening when it didn’t work out for them in the final third, midfielder Renato Sanches found a lot of joy pulling the strings from deep.
The Portuguese was by far Lille’s best player and the performance didn’t go unnoticed by members of the Twitterati.
