Lionel Messi tops the list with a player rating of 93 following a successful international campaign that saw him lift the Copa America, his first major international trophy with Argentina. Messi will be in his new colours after signing for PSG in the summer window from Barcelona.

Robert Lewandowski is second on the list with 92 as his player rating. There haven’t been many complaints since he had a spectacular 2020-21 season at an individual level, scoring 48 goals and providing 9 assists across all competitions. In addition to winning the league and the Club World Cup, he also achieved a few individual milestones including the European Golden Shoe and breaking Gerd Muller’s record for most goals(40) in a single Bundesliga season.

Cristiano Ronaldo gets an overall rating of 91 which he shares with four other players including Kevin De Bruyne, Kylian Mbappe, Neymar and Jan Oblak. Kane, Kante, Neuer and Terstegen are on 90 while Salah, Donnarumma, Benzema, Van Dijk, Kimmich, Son, Alisson, Courtois, Casemiro, Ederson and Mane are assigned a rating of 89.

The fans had a mixed reaction to the ratings and many weren’t happy with the ratings of their favourite stars. Many Ronaldo fans voiced their concerns over his downgrade from 92 to 91 even after winning the golden boot at the Euros. Madrid fans weren’t too happy about Terstegen’s ratings(90) when their number one Courtois was given a rating of 89.

But the most controversial rating that left many Liverpool fans annoyed was the downgrade of Mohamed Salah to 89 from 90. It gets even more baffling when Mane who was miles off Salah in terms of his goalscoring form, has been given the same rating of 89. Salah scored 22 league goals last season, just one short of Golden Boot winner Harry Kane.

Here’s a list of all 22 players and their respective overall ratings:
