According to the official club statement, “The salary reductions for Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, two of the four first team captains, signed this Tuesday have allowed FC Barcelona to achieve two objectives: the registration of Sergio Agüero with the Spanish Football League (LFP) and to extend the Club's limit with regards to financial fair play regulations. “

It wasn’t long ago when defender Gerard Pique downgraded his contract which allowed other new signings- Memphis, Eric Garcia and Rey Manaj to be registered in the league. Sergio Aguero, who joined Barcelona from Manchester City, was yet to be registered due to their ‘fair play’ limit.

Skipper Sergio Busquets and defender Jordi Alba followed suit as their salary reductions saw their new teammate Aguero become eligible to play in the league. The gesture has been widely welcomed in a time when Barca continue to struggle with a financial crisis. 

Also, with Aguero’s inclusion, the Spanish Giants have now completed the registration of all their new signings with La Liga.
