Lionel Messi celebrates after scoring for Barcelona
Striker Ansu Fati has been given the iconic No. 10 jersey, previously worn by legends such as Messi, Ronaldinho, Riquelme and Rivaldo. The youngster first wore 22 followed by 17 before acquiring the No. 10.
The Span international broke into the scene in the year 2019 as he became the youngest player ever to score in the league for Barca. He has made 41 first-team appearances for the Catalans, scoring 13 goals in total.
It seemed like Barcelona would retire their number 10 for the 21-22 season, but La Liga’s rule forces the first-team players to wear numbers 1-25, which meant they cannot leave the number unused. Ansu Fati would now be a proud wearer of the esteemed jersey.
The 18-year-old is back in training after a severe knee injury against Real Betis last November saw him sidelined for 9 months. Barca would hope that he hits the ground running once again come September.
Ansu Fati will be looking forward to playing in a different-looking attack as key players including Messi and Griezmann would be missing. On the flip side, he is yet to pair up with the latest incomings Depay, Aguero and the deadline-day signing Luuk de Jong, who joined on a season-long loan from Sevilla.
