Newcastle have received encouragement in their pursuit of Jesse Lingard, with the 29-year-old keen on the idea of a switch to Tyneside, according to Sky Sports.
Tottenham are also reportedly mulling over a summer move for the Englishman, but it is understood Man United would prefer not to sell to a rival who are currently above them in the table.
According to Manchester Evening News, Newcastle are said to be interested in a loan deal that would cover the player’s wages for the rest of the season.
The move would guarantee Lingard minutes while helping out Eddie Howe and Co. in their relegation fight, furthermore allowing him to sign permanently with the Magpies or assess other options as a free agent.
Lingard has been surplus to requirements at United this season, with Ronaldo and Sancho’s arrival pushing 29-year-old further down the pecking order.
Having played a total of only 97 minutes in the Premier League this season, Lingard has no intention of signing an extension at his boyhood club.
