Watford on Monday announced the appointment of Claudio Ranieri as their new manager. The 69-year-old has reportedly signed a 2-year contract. Ranieri replaces Xisco Munoz, who helped the club achieve promotion to the Premier League but was sacked after just 7 games into the new season.

The Italian famously led Leicester City to Premier League glory in 2015 in what is widely regarded as one of the greatest sporting stories of all time. But, his previous stint in England saw him get sacked as Fulham manager after managing only 3 wins in 17 games.

He left Sampdoria following the end of the 2020-21 season after helping the Italian club to a ninth-place finish.

Watford sit three places above the relegation zone in 15th position after picking up only seven points from seven games, meanwhile managing just two wins, against Aston Villa and Norwich respectively. Ranieri’s first game will be against Klopp’s Liverpool on 16th October at Vicarage Road.
