Steven Gerrard has previously said Luis Suarez is the best player he ever played with. The pair shared a dressing room for three years and came within touching distance of the Premier League trophy during the 2013-14 season, after which Suarez famously left for Barcelona. 

But, the relationship between the former Liverpool captain and the 34-year-old remained strong. Gerrard has often waxed lyrical about his forward’s ability and even mentioned in his autobiography how Suarez asked him to take special care of Philippe Coutinho when the Uruguayan left for Spain.

Fast forward to 2022, Coutinho has a goal and assist in Aston Villa colours after Gerrard convinced the Brazilian to join on loan from Barcelona and if reports from Spain are anything to go by, Luis Suarez could also join his former skipper at the club next season.

The reliable Gerard Romero reports that Luis Suarez has already rejected several offers, namely from Atlético Mineiro, Palmeiras and Corinthians because of an approach made by Steven Gerrard.

Suarez’s contract with Atletico Madrid ends in the summer and the forward won’t be short of offers from across the planet despite him being in the twilight of his career. 

Having Watkins and Ings to choose from, Villa have talent up front, but Suarez’s experience at the highest level and leadership qualities could convince the Birmingham-based club to do a deal.
