The Toffees sit 16th in the table, six points off the relegation spots registering only five wins out of nineteen games played.
Benitez, who has been dismissed after managing the Merseyside club for 200 games, was under heavy scrutiny due to their poor league run and Saturday’s defeat against Norwich was the final straw.
“Everton Football Club can confirm the departure of Rafael Benitez as First Team manager.”, read the club’s website.
“Benitez, who joined Everton in June 2021, has left the Club with immediate effect.
“An update on a permanent replacement will be made in due course.”, the statement concluded.
Though the club is yet to comment on its future appointment, Duncan Ferguson has been reported as a possible caretaker manager.
According to Telegraph, former Everton manager Roberto Martinez and Derby boss Wayne Rooney have been touted for a Goodison return.
Latest reports from Sky Sports claim that Brighton manager Graham Potter, who has an impressive record with the Seagulls, has also been added to the list of potential replacements.
