Aston Villa have agreed a deal with Everton for the transfer of left-back Lucas Digne, according to Sky Sports. Digne will be Steven Gerrard’s second signing since taking over, having brought in former teammate Philippe Coutinho on loan from Barcelona.
The wantaway Frenchman attracted serious interest from the likes of Newcastle and Chelsea, but Steven Gerrard’s side look to have beaten the rest to landing the 28-year-old.
The fee is said to be around £25m, and the player would be expected to go straight into Gerrard’s starting XI.
Gerrard’s time at Rangers saw both fullbacks provide the width and pose a threat going forward and the same could be asked of the Frenchman.
Everton, meanwhile, are looking at a loan move for Villa winger Anwar El Ghazi, according to a report on The Athletic. Manager Rafa Benitez is desperate to add quality to his side after only five wins in 18 games. Though the moves would see the players swap sides, both deals are said to be unrelated.
