Lucas Torreira training for Arsenal
The Serbian striker has been on Arsenal’s radar for some time now, and the Gunners have made attempts before to bring him to North London.
With skipper Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang banished from the first team and striker Alexandre Lacazette’s contract situation in the doldrums, Mikel Arteta would be looking to bring in a new face for the attacking role.
A report from Italy suggests that Arsenal are preparing a new bid for Fiorentina ace Dusan Vlahovic in a player-plus-cash deal that could see Lucas Torreira join the Italians.
The reported fee is around €55 million, and Torreira, valued at €15 million, will make the bid effectively worth €70 million.
Torreirra’s chances of playing for Arsenal has now diminished as the bid is indicative of the fact that he is no longer needed at the Emirates. A move to Italy should suit the Uruguayan having spent the majority of his career there with three different clubs.
The Gunners signed Lucas Torreira in July 2018 following an impressive performance at the World Cup. He had an impressive start to his Arsenal career, becoming a first-team regular.
He also won the FA Cup at Arsenal under Mikel Arteta but couldn’t quite settle under the new manager. He was loaned out at Atletico Madrid and later had to endure the death of his mother due to Covid.
His standout moment in an Arsenal shirt is his goal in the North London Derby, which helped beat archrivals Spurs 4-2 at home.
