Arsenal are missing Granit Xhaka to Covid alongside Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny, who’ve been called up for international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations.
The North London side’s midfield woes were evident in their 1-0 loss to Championship side Nottingham Forest in FA Cup 3rd round, where manager Mikel Arteta had to field youngsters Sambi Lokonga and Charlie Patino in the middle.
Arsenal are, therefore, on the lookout for new midfielders in the winter transfer window. According to a report from Goal.com, the Gunners are interested in signing midfielders Arthur and Tielemans to strengthen their midfield.
The report suggests that Arsenal have approached Juventus over a loan move for Arthur Melo, who is frustrated and ready to make a move due to lack of game time. Though Juventus would be happy to let go of the Brazilian, they will do so only if they manage to find a suitable replacement.
Lyon’s Bruno Guimaraes, whom Arsenal were interested in signing, is the man they are reportedly after and confident of signing. If the Italians can reach an agreement with Lyon, Arthur will be shown the green light.
Youri Tielemans, on the other hand, is a long term target. The Belgian has only 18 months left on his contract and is looking to move on.
Leicester will try their best to make him stay, but should he choose to leave come summer, Arsenal could be in contention to sign him provided they have Champions League football to offer.
